The mid part of 2007 has seen the release of the South Australian Healthcare Plan, a wide -ranging program of reform that most notably foreshadows establishment of a large new state of the art hospital in the centre of Adelaide. The SA Healthcare Plan does not provide detail regarding medical imaging services and as such the implications for the discipline of Radiology are difficult to assess. Given that clear direction is not yet forthcoming it seems logical and appropriate that medical imaging should respond in a coordinated fashion to the requirements of the various clinical services and clinical networks within South Australia.
In May 2007 the Department of Health conducted a South Australian Medical Careers Expo in collaboration with the Colleges and other bodies. This was a highly successful event and I would like to thank all of those South Australian radiologists who provided assistance.
The South Australian Branch Executive Committee has again considered a number of topics including:
- Activities and implications of issues arising at meetings between the Department of Health and Chairs of Colleges
- Meetings between the AMA and College Chairs regarding issues affecting the medical profession within South Australia
- The 2008 Annual Scientific Meeting and nomination of the Kodak Professor
- The Ronald Walker Prize for the best South Australian Registrar presentation
In May 2007 the South Australian branch was fortunate to host presentations by the College President Dr Liz Kenny and a number of other College staff regarding College strategic planning, QUDI, the e-learning portal being established on the College website and a number of other successful College initiatives. The opportunity to engage with and learn from those giving presentations was much appreciated by members of the Branch.
Dr. Steve Chryssidis returned from interstate in early 2007 and I would like to thank him for his contribution to Branch affairs in the position of Honorary Secretary. I would also like to thank Rita Aruzza for her invaluable assistance over the past year. Monthly Scientific Meetings over the past year have covered a range of topics including:
- Update on Interventional Neuroradiology
- Registrar presentation
- Cerebral SPECT
- HRCT Approach to Diagnosis with Case Based Review
- Cardiac MRI
- Imaging of Cervical Lymph Nodes
- Imaging of Gastric Banding

Top ] The Victorian Branch
has been instrumental in facilitating innovative CPD programs for Rural
Fellows. Through funding from the Support Scheme for Rural Specialists,
a joint initiative of the Commonwealth of Health and Ageing and the Committee
of Presidents of Medical Colleges, the RANZCR provides four state of the
art programs that give rural and regional specialists the same opportunities
as their city colleagues to meet, discuss cases and at the same time add
to their CPD points. These programs are coordinated by the Victorian Branch
on behalf of the College and the Faculty of Radiation Oncology:
- Case reviews from the Alfred Hospital Radiology Team
- RANZCR
Victorian Branch Monthly Scientific Meetings
- Interventional
Radiology
- Videoconference Series Current Issues in Oncology
for Medical Specialists
