The College became involved in negotiations with the Government on economic
issues in the late 1960s. The Diagnostic Economic Committee has
been a standing committee of the College since 1974 when it replaced a
Fees Committee set up to investigate the Health Insurance Planning Report,
known as the Deeble Report, as it applied to Radiologists. The Colleges
increasing involvement in negotiations on economic issues was based on
the view that it was necessary and proper that Council should safeguard
the interests of its members.
The main aims of the Diagnostic Economic Committee are:
- To review and analyse the economic impact of issues which affect
the radiology profession and the provision of radiology services in
Australia
- To provide advice and assistance to the College Council in relation
to the Colleges responsibilities as a party to the Radiology Quality
and Outlays MoU and the Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound Quality
and Outlays MoU and as a stakeholder in the management of the Nuclear
Medicine Quality and Outlays MoU
- To liaise with the Department of Health and Ageing (DHA) and the Australian
Diagnostic Imaging Association (ADIA) in regard to the quality, affordable,
cost effective delivery of publicly funded Radiology and O & G Ultrasound
services under Medicare
