Ultrasound Accreditation Standards
The past year has seen further dialogue with the Australasian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine with respect to development of common ultrasound accreditation standards. The potential difficulties of accreditation of subspecialty ultrasound versus general ultrasound remain as issues to be resolved. Standards for mandatory accreditation of vascular ultrasound are being drawn from the Australasian Vascular Ultrasound Accreditation Board (AVUAB) standards developed in a multidisciplinary forum several years ago. These standards will require some updating.

Certificate of Clinician-Performed Ultrasound (CCPU)
The College is conscious of the increased utilisation ultrasound by clinicians at the point of clinical care, often in a very specific and focused manner. The College differentiates this extension of the clinical examination from the referred comprehensive ultrasound examination performed by the radiologist. The College therefore supports the concept of the Certificate of Clinician-Performed Ultrasound (CCPU) being developed by the Australasian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM), to provide ultrasound training and qualifications specific to the clinical examination.

FRANZCR Ultrasound Training
The FRANZCR ultrasound training curriculum and examinations in ultrasound for the Parts I and II of the Fellowship are to be reviewed, as part of the Curriculum Project to ensure that radiologists remain appropriately credentialed in ultrasound.

Unnecessary CT Scans
Dr Matthew Andrews, President of RANZCR has endorsed the concerns raised by Dr Tony Webber, Director of Medicare’s Professional Services Review, about the inappropriate use of CT scans.
