Abdominal Radiology Group of Australia and New Zealand (ARGANZ) is an educational and scientific group uniting members of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiology (RANZCR) who have a special interest in the imaging and treatment of patients with diseases of abdominal organs.

Proposed aims and objectives of ARGANZ

  • To promote best practice, education and research in abdominal imaging subspecialty in Australia and New Zealand;
  • To provide a forum for exchange of scientific and clinical information and experience among ARGANZ members;
  • To facilitate interaction with national and international organizations of medical and allied health organization involved in management of abdominal diseases;
  • To provide clinical and scientific consensus expertise on behalf of RANZCR for advice and lobbying of state and federal governments and other organizations involved with policies of concern to ARGANZ and RANZCR members;

These Aims are to be reviewed once a year at the time of annual assembly during RANZCR ASM.

The Abdominal Imaging discussion forum is used by the group to coordinate general discussion or debate about abdominal imaging information or specific topics raised. It is also used to facilitate broader discussion and debate on draft guidelines, recommendations or policies developed by the Group.

Update on the Registration of International Medical Graduates
By national agreement, all jurisdictions have introduced consistent assessment and registration pathways for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) in addition to the existing Australian Medical Council (AMC) examination pathway.
Unholy Alliances
RANZCR has written to the Department of Health and Ageing calling for a moratorium on business arrangements between specialists and radiologists regarding ownership of imaging facilities.
Communication in Medical Imaging, and Critical Test Results
Information Technology has made us all more productive and efficient but the technology has come at a cost, reducing opportunities to discuss appropriate imaging ordering with clinicians, and valuable interactions with our patients.
