The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists is the professional body of the medical specialists who practice Radiology and Radiation Oncology. Radiology is the field of medicine that deals with the scanning of radiographic images of the body using medical imaging techniques, advanced computers and complex equipment that allows doctors to see inside a patient's body. Some forms of imaging include MRI, nuclear medicine, ultrasound and computed tomography. Radiation Oncology is the field of medicine which involves the care of patients with cancer, and the use of radiation treatment, often in combination with surgery and/or chemotherapy. [ Top ] As medical specialists, Radiologists and Radiation Oncologists complete medical degrees, a period of at least two years in general clinical training and then a five year training specialist training program. The RANZCR was accredited by the Australian Medical Council in 2002. The accreditation standards relate to the process of specialist education and training. The guidelines set out the educational processes, institutional processes, training settings and resources that the AMC regards as requirements for successful specialist medical education and training and professional development programs.
