Category 3 - Education

Participants may accrue no more than 90 Points in this category for the Triennium.

3.1 Teaching of Trainees

Definition:Active presentation of radiology or other imaging knowledge to radiology trainees (in the College training scheme) or postgraduate or undergraduate students in a formal medical College training scheme or recognised University course.

Examples:
Lectures, workshops, tutorials to radiology trainees as part of a formal RANZCR or University teaching program

Exclusions:
Informal tutorials to 'own' radiology registrars, informal tutorials to exam candidates (radiology or other specialities), informal 'in-house' teaching of nurses, informal tutorials to medical students, etc.

Points Credited: 2 points per hour
Maximum per year: 20 points
Verification Required: Teaching Program Schedule or Declaration from Organisation/University (including number of hours).

3.2 Supervision of Trainees

Definition:Supervision of Radiology trainees at the participant's institution (via formal written assignment from Director of Training at that institution).  Only 10 points available per registrar per 12 months training being undertaken at that institution.  The points can be shared by the Supervisors of Training at the discretion of the Director of Training at the institution.

Examples:
A Participant works (and supervises Registrars) one day per week in Department with 10 Registrars and 10 FTE Radiologists. Fellow can claim no more than 2 points for this activity in any one year.

Exclusion:
Teaching of supernumerary informal visitors

Points Credited: 10 points per Registrar/Fellow per year (can be calculated pro-rata for shorter periods of training)
Maximum per year: 15 points
Verification Required: Letter from supervisor of training confirming distribution of points amongst FTE Radiologists and verifying numbers of Registrars trained over the period.

3.3 Supervision of Research Students

Definition: Acting as the primary research supervisor to an undergraduate or a postgraduate research student

Examples:
Supervision of a B.Med.Sci student in the Department of Radiology, supervision of a M.Med (Radiology) thesis, supervision of a PhD or MD student

Points Credited: 10 points per student per year (can be calculated pro-rata for shorter supervision periods)
Maximum per year: no cap
Verification Required: Declaration from Institution or enrolment/results notice with supervisor's name.

3.4 Supervision of Overseas Trained Doctors

Definition: Supervision of an Overseas Trained Doctor who has need of further training or supervision identified by the AMC/RANZCR pathway, the Area of Need pathway or by the MCNZ.

Points Credited: 10 points per Doctor per year
Maximum per year: no cap
Verification Required: Declaration from Institution

3.5 Examining

Definition: College examiner for RANZCR Part I or Part II exams; examiner in Radiology of either postgraduate or undergraduate students.  3.5D also applies to formal submission of multiple choice questions (MCQs)to the Education Board for inclusion in exam papers.

3.5D Exam Setting/Marking 2 (per hour or MCQ)

Maximum per year: 30 points
Verification Required: For College examinations – Education Board Records, otherwise declaration from institution.  For submission of MCQs – feedback from Education Board.
