Category 4 - Self Directed Learning

Participants may accrue no more than 90 Points in this category for the Triennium.

4.1 Formal Post Graduate Study

Definition: Study as part of a recognised University or Medical College or Professional Society administered course leading to a formal qualification (Degree, Diploma).

Exclusions:
Topics not related to radiology/medical imaging; business or management qualifications (e.g. MBA).  For non-radiology courses (e.g. Education), participants are encouraged to contact the Secretariat to ascertain the eligibility of their course for CPD points.

Points Credited: 60 points per year for full time study, 30 points per year for part time study
Maximum per year: no cap
Verification Required: Confirmation of Enrolment

4.2 Self Directed Learning

Definition: Undertaking a self-designed self-directed program of learning, where the objective is to improve the participant's knowledge and skills in a particular area, and which involves a study plan, study goals and assessment of progress.

Exclusions:
Non-planned, non-measured reading or web-surfing or literature perusal.

Points Credited: 1 point per hour
Maximum per year: 30 points
Verification Required: Study Plan/Report

4.3 Web-based or DVD based Learning via RANZCR or the RSNA

Definition: Undertaking CPD/CME activities provided either by the RANZCR or the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) (under the 1 RSNA CME for 1 RANZCR CPD point arrangement).

Points Credited: 1 point per hour for RANZCR activities; 1:1 for RSNA CME points
Note: the CPD Committee is actively seeking to widen the reciprocity arrangements with other major radiology CME/CPD providers.
Maximum per year: 30 points
Verification Required: Certificate or web-based verification or record of DVD purchase (from the RANZCR DVD Library).

4.4 Journal Reading

Definition: Active reading of current radiology/medical imaging literature with a documentation trail (either by writing of MCQs or by logbook of critical précis points)

Points Credited: 1 point per hour
Maximum per year: 30 points
Verification Required: Subscription Verification &/or writing of MCQ's or by logbook of critical précis points.

4.5 Reflective Diary

Definition: The Reflective Diary is an opportunity for practitioners to reflect on incidents or cases in practice that have impacted on individual learning and resulted in a change in attitude, practice or behaviour.  It is a powerful educational tool for the individual practitioner and is not intended to be viewed by others.  In the case of CPD audit, the College does not require nor desire access to the practitioner’s reflective diary.  Individual practitioners may however need to provide evidence that such a diary exists, for instance a statutory declaration.

Points Credited: 2 points per hour
Maximum per year: 30 points
Verification Required: Record of usage or Report.

4.6 Sabbatical

Definition: Formal Post Graduate Study taken as Sabbatical not leading to formal qualifications and approved by the department Director (including post-Fellowship Fellowships).

Points Credited: 60 points per year, 30 points per 6 months
Maximum per year: no cap
Verification: Diary of activity or Sabbatical Report.
