Learning and Development Framework

CANMEDS_flower_text

The College encourages development of capability both in the medical expert arena and the non-medical expert arena, for their members. Capability building requires a systematic management approach to learning and development as an integral part of training, continual professional development and workforce planning.

For more information on how the Learning and Development Framework (L&DF) informs the CPD programs in both disciplines can be found here:

To support learning and development in the College, a formal Training Needs Analysis (TNA) was conducted in the first half of 2011. The final report was endorsed by the College Council on 22 July 2011.

Click here for a summary of the TNA and copy of the report.

Some of the main points raised in the TNA included:

  • development of online CPD and learning management systems
  • development of online resources in the non-medical expert areas
  •

In response to the outcomes of the TNA, the College developed a Learning Portal and will be launching it on 1 August, 2012.  The Learning Portal is a one stop shop for all things learning for the College.  With the launch of the Learning Portal, you will have:

  • An online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) whereby a fellow/educational affiliate can enter his/her professional development activities, enter reflections in a diary and print out CPD Statement and CPD Summaries.
  • An online Learning Management System (LMS) whereby all members will have access to courses and resources. In support of the development of an LMS, an application was made to the Rural Health Continuing Education (RHCE) in late 2011 for funding to develop an e-learning library (10 hours) in the non-medical expert areas.  The College was successful in its application and is now working on developing a library of e-learning modules in the non-medical areas of management, communication and professional.
  • An Exam Central area which acts as a repository for all things regarding exams, of the e-exams and non e-exam variety, including the e-MCQ instruction video and past exam papers.
