- In accordance with the primary object of the RANZCR (Articles
of Association, paragraph 3 (a), the objective of Continuing Professional
Development (CPD) is to promote, encourage and provide for
the advancement of the study and the practice of the science known
as Radiation Oncology and for the carrying out of research and
experimental work in connection with this science. CPD thus
represents the formalisation of this primary aim of our College.
- Given the different sub-specialties and the widely different
locations of practice existing under the umbrella of the RANZCR,
CPD must be flexible allowing members to undertake those activities
helpful to their particular needs.
- CPD must assist, encourage and provide an incentive for continuous
improvement rather than merely detect those who fail to meet a
certain standard.
- CPD should be relevant.
- Each CPD activity should be verifiable and the total CPD requirement
will indicate the minimum
threshold of appropriate CPD effort.
- CPD should be voluntary but actively encouraged by the Post
Fellowship Education Committee and Faculty Board.
- Although CPD may be an appropriate means of recertification
if required in future the proposed program is a recognition that
ongoing CPD is an integral part of radiation oncology practice.

The above principles and guidelines are modifications of those issued
by Michael Sage, Warden of the Membership following a meeting of the CPD
Sub-Committee and the Education Board in April, 1993.
The Facultys Post Fellowship Education Committee is currently reviewing
these principles and the structure of the program with a view to significant
changes in the future.
