Radiation Oncology Phase 1 Assessment Toolkit
Please Note:
Content on these pages applies to the Training Program for trainees who commenced training from December 2008 (New Zealand) and January 2009 (Australia and Singapore) onwards. If you commenced training up to and including 2008, please find further information on the Old Radiation Oncology Curriculum page.

The Phase 1 Assessment Toolkit is a companion document to the new Radiation Oncology Training Program Curriculum. It has been developed for Director’s of Training (DoT) and Clinical Supervisors as a tool to aid orientation to the new Training Program Curriculum and in particular the new assessment tools.

The Toolkit also details expected trainee progression through the training program in order to provide a guide to when trainees should be undertaking each Portfolio activity. It is important to note that progression is not along a fixed timeline and allows certain flexibility for trainees to tailor their progress to their own needs.

Below you will find links to the different sections of the Toolkit; these can be viewed on your screen or downloaded to your computer.

The Information Paper on ‘Assessment in the new Radiation Oncology Training Program Curriculum’ within Section 1 provides an excellent background on the new assessments.

You should also familiarise yourself with the new Radiation Oncology Training Program Curriculum, particularly the Radiation Oncology Central Knowledge Skills Summary (ROCKSS) section.

You will also need to be familiar with the Oncology Sciences curriculum which contains details of what trainees need to know in the Oncology Sciences of Radiation Oncology Physics, Radiation and Cancer Biology, Anatomy and Pathology in Phase 1 of the training program.

Along with this Toolkit the RANZCR has also developed a Learning Portfolio for Trainees which includes information on the assessment tools but is also where Trainees accrue the “evidence” of their learning over the course of the training program.
