Directors of Training Workshops

In June each year the Faculty holds a Directors of Training (DoT) Workshop. These workshops provide an excellent opportunity for the Faculty to present information to DoTs on current issues, provide training on relevant topics and receive feedback from the DoTs. The workshops also provide a valuable forum for DoTs to raise and discuss issues or concerns while sharing their own experiences in support of their colleagues. A further DoT Workshop is also held at each years Annual Scientific Meeting.

It is important for training sites to note that the Faculty expects each department to support their DoTs attendance at these workshops (this includes financial support and leave time). This requirement will, in time, be an accreditation criterion.

June 2009 Workshop

In June 2009 the Faculty held its 5th annual Directors of Training (DOT) Workshop at the Maritime Museum, Darling Harbour. The annual workshops are well attended by DOTs. They provide an excellent forum for provision of information and training to DOTs, an opportunity for DOTs to engage with the College and provide feedback on RANZCR educational activities, and for DOTs to share concerns and ideas with their colleagues.

This was the second year that Heads of Departments were also invited to the workshop. This invitation was extended to facilitate information sharing regarding the new curriculum and training networks.

ASM 2008 Workshop

The DOT Workshop sessions at the 2008 ASM in Adelaide were especially well attended by DoTs and other interested Faculty members. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the new curriculum, in particular to familiarise attendees with some of the new assessment tools, and to seek advice from DoTs regarding the kind of support they will need when rolling out the new curriculum in their departments. The workshop session also provided training on the use of the Mini-CEX instrument. The presentations and outcomes of the DoT sessions are available to download at the links below.
