Radiology is the field of medicine that deals with the scanning of radiographic images of the body using medical imaging techniques, advanced computers and complex equipment that allows doctors to see inside a patient’s body. Some forms of imaging include MRI, nuclear medicine, ultrasound and computed tomography.
Specialty training as a radiologist is undertaken after completion of a medical degree and at least two years postgraduate clinical training. The College is responsible for the training and assessment in this discipline.
To enter the training program, potential trainees first need to obtain a position at an accredited site. The College accredits centres to provide training that meets standards in areas such as trainee to consultant ratio and a capacity and commitment to provide a quality teaching and learning environment.
