Requirements for admission to Fellowship of the College (FRANZCR)

In order to be awarded the FRANZCR and therefore be eligible for recognition and registration as a Specialist in Radiology, a trainee must:

  1. pass both Part I and Part II FRANZCR examinations in Radiology; and
  2. complete a minimum of five years of practical training in training positions accredited by the RANZCR.

The Part I FRANZCR may only be sat by candidates who occupy accredited training positions. Candidates will not be permitted to sit the Part I subjects separately.

The Part II FRANZCR consists of two subjects (Pathology and Radiology). Radiology and Pathology Examinations must be taken together unless one subject has been passed previously. A candidate’s first attempt must not occur earlier than a his/her fourth year of training. No less than four of the five years of training must be undertaken in accredited departments in Australia and New Zealand. The FRANZCR is not awarded until five years of practical training (in approved training centres) has been completed satisfactorily.

The Fellowship of the RANZCR (FRANZCR) is the postgraduate qualification awarded by the RANZCR after appropriate examinations and training, approval of Council and payment of the subscription.

The Education Board of the RANZCR has direct responsibility for determining the standards of the examinations and required training for the FRANZCR. The Board is convened by the Chief Censor in Radiology and comprises one representative (Branch Education Officer) from each State in Australia and from New Zealand, as well as one Junior Radiologist representative.
