It has been agreed that up to 12 months research time can be accredited
towards radiology training under the following guidelines -
- The subject should relate to radiology
- At least one of the research supervisors should be a consultant radiologist
- In general, research should be undertaken only by those candidates
who have completed four years of accredited training and who have passed
the Part II FRANZCR examination.
- It is recognised that in some cases, an opportunity to undertake research
before the fifth year may arise. In such exceptional cases, applicants
must inform the Education Board of the proposed research project and
seek in-principle support. Following four years of accredited training
and successful completion of the Part II examination, an application
for accreditation of the research period must be submitted, together
with the report detailed in (a)
- It has been agreed to allow one year of a two (or more) year research
program in the disciple of radiology to be accepted as one of the five
years of accredited training. Approved candidates would be allowed the
option of sitting the Part I examination after completion of the first
year of the research project. In addition, the program of research must
be approved by the Education Board prior to the commencement of the
research year and the outcomes of the research recognised at the completion
of the project by the Education Board for the time to be counted retrospectively
toward the five year training program.
- Research may be undertaken in an accredited department in Australia,
New Zealand or Singapore or an approved overseas institution.
- Applications should be prospective and include support from the relevant
Branch Education Officer. A detailed project outline and the names of
the supervisor(s) must be included.
- Following completion of the research project, a detailed report of
the research outcomes, including details of any publications or presentations,
must be submitted to the Education Board. Final approval is dependent
upon receipt of a satisfactory report.
