This committee will be responsible for developing policies to inform
and influence governments and other decision makers about the importance
of a viable and sustainable radiation oncology service within Australia
and New Zealand.
Specifically this involves:
-
Co-ordinating advice to, and assessing information from the Australian
Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and the Ministry of Health
in New Zealand in regard to the funding of radiotherapy and radiation
oncology in both countries.
-
As necessary, assessing information and providing advice to State/Territory
Health Departments and NZ District Health Boards.
-
Co-ordinating advice to, and assessing information from key regulatory
agencies such as the Medicare Services Advisory Committee.
-
Providing advice to all Fellows, through the Faculty Board, in regard
to government and regulatory processes.
Often this committee will be required to work in a confidential
mode. It will also be required to deal with short turn-around times in
response to political and bureaucratic developments.
The basis of the inter-action between this committee and other groups,
such as the Australian Association of Private Radiation Oncology Practices
(AAPROP) needs to be clearly defined and explicit. It is readily acknowledged
that members of this committee may also be members of AAPROP, and directly
involved in its operations. Members will be asked to open a formal dialogue
with AAPROP, with the aim of developing a memorandum of understanding
about their interaction, and joint activities.
