Terms of Reference

The Research Committee is responsible for developing policies and mechanisms to promote the conduct and reporting of quality research by Fellows and Junior Forum members of the Faculty.

It will also be responsible for evaluating research grant applications received by the Faculty and making recommendations for funding.

Specifically, the committee’s activities involve:

  • Promoting the importance of involvement in clinical and translational research as part of the professional life of radiation oncologists
  • Encouraging greater participation by Fellows and trainees in clinical trials involving radiation oncology, especially those sponsored by TROG
  • Developing strategies to increase funding for radiation oncology research through competitive granting agencies such as NHMRC and State Cancer Councils
  • Developing and promoting incentives for Fellows to pursue formal research training leading to higher academic degrees, in conjunction with the Post Fellowship Education Committee.
  • Liaising with the ASM subcommittee to oversee the research content of the Faculty meeting.
  • Developing criteria for the award of prizes for papers presented at the ASM.

Recognising the integral role of TROG in the Faculty’s research agenda, a nominee of the TROG President will have a guaranteed position on the Committee. The Faculty’s Junior Forum will also be directly represented.
