The College has been developing its Quality and Accreditation Program
over the last 7 years, with funding assistance from the Department
of Health and Ageing, and has developed a set of accreditation standards
for diagnostic and interventional radiology.
The program covers the modalities of general radiography, ultrasound,
mammography, computerised tomography, interventional radiology,
magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine and bone mineral densitometry.
The program has been developed in stages in order to facilitate
the move towards practice accreditation where previously no such
program existed, culminating at Stage 3, the accreditation phase,
in November 2003. It is jointly administered with the National
Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA).
Under the terms of the Radiology Quality and Outlays MoU, it is
proposed that accreditation will become mandatory by November 2005,
with appropriate transitional arrangements.

The RANZCR quality initiative has extended to the international arena,
with the formation of the International
Radiology Quality Network (IRQN) in 2001. The network is a collaboration
of founding
member Colleges and has established a range of short and long term
goals. A recent joint RANZCR/IRQN initiative is the Quality
Improvement poster award at the forthcoming ASM in Perth.
