College and Sponsored Honours
College Honours acknowledge outstanding contributions to the College and to the radiology and radiation oncology professions.
Gold Medal
The College Articles provide that: "The Council, at its discretion, may award the Gold Medal of the College as the College's highest honour to any person who has rendered outstanding service or benefactions to the development, teaching or practice of Radiology or Radiation Oncology in Australasia. The award shall be made on the recommendation of the Awards Committee and in accordance with guidelines determined by Council from time to time.”
In 1969, Council resolved "that a Gold Medal be struck, to be awarded as a very special honour and as a mark of appreciation to a person, professional or lay, who has rendered outstanding service or benefaction to the development, teaching and practice of Radiology in Australasia."

Honorary Fellowship
The College Articles provide that: "The Council may honour a person who has contributed by original research to the scientific advancement of the science of Radiology or Radiation Oncology and allied sciences or who has rendered special service in the interests of the College or the said sciences by admitting that person as an Honorary Fellow of the College."
College Awards require an application form to be completed. The nomination should include a short explanation of why the nominee is a worthy recipient as well as a copy of their CV or professional summary.

Life Membership
The relevant provision in the Articles is: “A Fellow may be elected a Life Member if, in the opinion of the Council, that Fellow's outstanding work in his or her profession or any other reason as Council may determine warrants his or her election as a Life Member. The election of any Fellow as a Life Member must be confirmed by an Annual General Meeting.”
It is emphasised by the Awards Committee that Life Membership should be awarded only to those Fellows who have made a significant contribution to radiology, radiation oncology and/or the College above and beyond a long and successful career in radiology or radiation oncology, as it is expected that the latter would apply to the majority of College Fellows.

Bill Hare Fellowship
Council has instituted a new annual Fellowship award to support a Fellow for a period of intensive study. The primary purpose of the Fellowship is to allow a qualified diagnostic radiologist to further his/her knowledge of an acknowledged subspecialty, in which there is a recognised shortage, by study in Australia, New Zealand or overseas.
The award is named after Professor William Hare AO for his outstanding commitment and service to The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. Professor Hare is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and he completed his radiology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Professor Hare was the first of a select group of Fellows to have held sequentially the Thomas Baker Fellowship and the Rouse Travelling Fellowship. Perhaps Professor Hare's most well-known role within the College was that of founding Chairman of the College's Mammography Quality Assurance Program. He was College President in 1986-87 and was awarded the Gold Medal in 1988.
Rouse Travelling Fellowship
Council established the annual Rouse Travelling Fellowship in 1960 in recognition of the value of a continuing exchange of ideas and information between the radiologists and radiation oncologists of Australia and New Zealand. This Fellowship honours the memory of Mr Edgar Rouse and forms a continuing acknowledgment of his great contribution to the education activities of the College over many years.
Rohan Williams Professorship
The Rohan Williams Professorship was established to link the educational endeavours of the College with those of the Royal College of Radiologists, London, and honours the memory of the late Dr Rohan Williams, distinguished former President of the British College and Honorary Fellow of the College.
A Professor is appointed at two yearly intervals from Australasia and Britain alternately and is expected to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting of the opposite College and visit a variety of centres in the territory of that College. In each direction, radiologist and radiation oncologist professors should alternate.
Radiation Oncology Educational Service Award
The Faculty of Radiation Oncology recognises that nearly all Fellows contribute to the provision of training, evolution and implementation of the Curriculum and to a whole range of other educational activities, in particular in relation to trainees in our program. This work is performed on a volunteer basis and the successful training of our future specialists is dependent on these ongoing contributions.
In 2011 the Faculty developed and introduced an Educational Service Award to acknowledge those members who have demonstrated an outstanding level of commitment, participation and leadership in the area of training and education in radiation oncology over an extended period of time.
In particular, it is intended to recognise a Fellow who has made ongoing significant contributions well over and above a standard expected by all training institutions in the specialty and will be awarded to someone who does not have responsibilities attributable to their elected office or committee position in an educational role. The award will be presented only if suitable nominations are received.
Applications for the 2012 Educational Service Award must be received by 25 May 2012

Thomas Baker Fellowship
The history of the Thomas Baker Fellowship is as long as that of the College itself. The Fellowship is supported by a grant from the Baker Foundation.
