Member Opportunities
Our members are central to the future of Radiology and Radiation Oncology. The College encourages its Members to get involved. The College’s mission as a Fellowship based organisation is to set, promote and continuously improve the standards of training and practice in Radiology and Radiation Oncology, for the betterment of the people of Australia and New Zealand.

The College’s ability to meet its mission and objectives is directly influenced by the members who volunteer their time and expertise in numerous ways. The College has many ways members can make a contribution to the Radiology or Radiation Oncology profession, consider the following opportunities:

College Branches The College has Branches in each Australian state, in the Australian Capital Territory and in New Zealand. These Branches work at a local level to represent the interest of College members and are governed by a local committee.
Branches rely heavily on volunteerism for leadership, program and event planning and advocacy efforts. Contact your local Branch for information on how to get involved.
JMIRO Reviewer

Reviewers are asked to read and provide feedback on manuscripts in their subspecialty area of expertise for the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology (JMIRO).

College members are invited to make topic suggestions for and contribute to the content of the College newsletter, Inside News. This quarterly newsletter is designed to provide awareness and encourage discussion of key issues affecting the practice of Radiology and Radiation Oncology.

Examiners for Radiology and Radiation Oncology

College Members who have a special interest in the education and training of Trainee Radiologists and Radiation Oncologists and meet the Examiners Criteria can express an interest in becoming a College examiner.

Annual Scientific Meeting
Abstract Reviewer

The College’s Annual Scientific Meeting receives scientific abstracts from March – May annually. College Members are asked to review abstracts during the months of June and July. Each Reviewer is asked to reviews abstracts in their area of expertise (approx 10 – 12) and may be asked to assist in the final selection of abstracts to be accepted. Accepted abstracts are given as oral presentations and scientific exhibits at the College’s Annual Meeting.

Session Chairperson

Each scientific session at the Annual Meeting has a Chairperson who is responsible for introducing speakers and moderating discussion of presentations.

Quality Use of Diagnostic Imaging Program

The Quality Use of Diagnostic Imaging (QUDI) Program focuses on implementing evidence into practice in radiology in Australia. The QUDI Program has a number of Committees which oversee the management and activities of the program.

The QUDI Program is currently seeking Liaison Radiologists throughout Australia.

Reference Groups

College Reference Groups assist with the development and revision of policies and standards relating to specific disciplines.

Special Interest Groups

College Special Interest Groups relate to specific areas of interest and aim to establish networks of members with similar interests.

Committees and Boards

The College has a number of Committee and Boards that govern the activities of the College. College Fellows and Trainees may serve on a Committee or Board to carry out the mission of the College.

The European Society of Radiology is offering free corresponding membership to members of the RANZCR.

The American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) is the first and oldest radiology society in the United States and is dedicated to the advancement of medicine through the science of radiology and its allied sciences.
The Society has extended free online International In-Training membership to RANZCR trainees in radiology and radiation oncology who reside outside North America or the territories of the United States.
RANZCR trainees or ‘International In-training’ members of the ARRS will receive complimentary online access to the American Journal of Roentgenology and AJR Integrative Imaging. As members of the Society trainees will also receive the ARRS magazine, ARRS InPractice, and significant discounts on member products and services.
RANZCR Trainees who are interested and eligible for this free membership opportunity with the ARRS are asked to complete a membership application form available at http://www.arrs.org/membership/apply/.  The form can also be downloaded, mailed or faxed back to the ARRS.

DoHA Consultation on 2nd Edition Practice Standards
The Department of Health and Ageing is currently consulting on proposed 2nd Edition Standards to be applied under Stage 2 of the Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme.
Specialist Recognition Fee Increase
As of 1 July 2009, the RANZCR application fee for specialist recognition of overseas trained specialists will be AUD$1,600.
The Doctor as Educator - competencies and resources
The Bridging Project was a 3-year initiative whose goal was to enhance the vertical integration of teaching and learning competencies generic to the practice of medicine. The project was a collaboration of volunteer representatives from the majority of Australia and New Zealand's 21 medical schools, 8 post-graduate medical education councils, 12 speciality Colleges, student and trainee associations, and national medical education and training bodies.
