Review of Funding for Diagnostic Imaging

In the 2009-10 Budget, the Government announced that it would undertake a  detailed review of funding arrangements for diagnostic imaging, to ensure that the Government is paying the right amount in the right way to support access for patients to quality diagnostic imaging services.

The Review of Funding of Diagnostic Imaging (the Review) was completed on 30 June 2011 and the final report of the review, The Review of Funding for Diagnostic Imaging Final Report, is now available.

The College was involved throughout the review in both formal and informal discussions with the Government about the need to address  longstanding systemic problems in the Diagnostic Imaging sector and to establish a more strategic approach to managing the future provision of quality Diagnostic Imaging services. The reform program announced in the Final Report reflects the Government’s support for this approach and  provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to work collaboratively over the next 3-5 years to address key issues identified during the review, which  extend to quality assurance, efficiency of practice, the role of the radiologist and demand management, as well as to addressing the ongoing appropriateness of the current DI Services Table and the regulatory framework in which DI operates in Australia.
