The fact sheet provides information on the type and level of radiation emitted by these screening technologies, and concludes:

"There is currently no international consensus on the use of these devices, and the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) is presently considering the issues associated with the use of backscatter X-ray apparatus and similar devices."
