Update on the Registration of International Medical Graduates

By national agreement, all jurisdictions have introduced consistent assessment and registration pathways for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) in addition to the existing Australian Medical Council (AMC) examination pathway.

Applicants who wish to enter a genuine short-term specialist training position in Australia will require assessment by RANZCR for purpose of registration.

Applicants will be assessed by the College and registered on the specialist pathway without sitting the AMC MCQ examination, provided that certain criteria are met. These criteria relate to the specialist training experience and the suitability of the training positions. This pathway is NOT available to those IMGs who have not had substantial specialist training and/or are applying for service positions which do not have a training program that meets their specific needs.
