OTDs - Non-specialist Qualifications

Overseas Trained Doctors with Non-Specialist Radiology Qualifications

In order to be recognised as a specialist in radiology by the College, it is necessary to complete five years in radiology training positions accredited by the College and to pass the College's Part I and Part II Radiology examinations.

To be accepted by the RANZCR into the training program, a candidate must:

  1. i. be a graduate of a medical school recognised by a Medical Board in Australia and the Council of the RANZCR (or have successfully completed both Part I and Part II AMC examinations for overseas medical graduates in Australia)
  2. or

    ii. be a graduate of a medical school recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand and the Council of the RANZCR (or have successfully completed the NZREX for overseas medical graduates in New Zealand)

    or

    iii. be a graduate of a medical school recognised by the registering authority of the country in which the RANZCR training program is conducted and the Council of the RANZCR

    and

  3. be fully registered as a medical practitioner by the registering authority recognised by the Council of the RANZCR, in the state or country in which the RANZCR training program is conducted
  4. and

  5. complete two full years in an approved hospital as an intern/resident.

You are also required to have resident status in Australia. Information regarding residency and visa requirements can be obtained from the Commonwealth Department Immigration & Multicultural Affairs Department, http://www.immi.gov.au/.

The College does not offer fellowship training positions. Applicants must apply in writing to the heads of department at the hospitals accredited by this College to provide training. Further information can be found here.

Breast Imaging Research Fellowships
The Cancer Institute NSW Breast Imaging Fellowship Program, valued at up to $142,156 per annum, is designed to provide six to twelve months of in-depth training and possible research assistance for newly qualified radiologist*. This program aims to further support breast cancer diagnosis improvement, research and best practice.
