Iodinated Contrast Media Guideline, 2016 Version

Iodinated Contrast Media Guideline, 2016 Version

Iodinated Contrast Media Guideline, 2016 Version Recommendations Only

The RANZCR Iodinated Contrast Guideline has been revised to reflect the changing landscape regarding contrast administration. The aim of the review was to provide Fellows and other health care professionals in Australia and New Zealand with contemporary information and practical guidance regarding the safe and appropriate use of iodinated contrast media. The information and recommendations in the guideline have been laid out in as clear and straightforward a manner as could be achieve.

Point of Care Tools

A range of point of care tools for use by practitioners and patients have been developed to facilitate implementation of the guideline.

Wall Chart - Recommended Treatment Regimen for the Management of Anaphylaxis in a Radiology Suite

We recommend that this be printed in A3 size and placed prominently in the CT room so that it is easy to see and follow in the case of an adverse event. The content of this chart was provided to RANZCR courtesy of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anesthetists.

Chart - Treatment of Adverse Reaction to Iodinated Contrast Media – Drugs and Equipment

We recommend that this chart be placed prominently near the emergency cart (however named) in the CT room to ensure the cart is always appropriately stocked.

 Information for Patients

This information sheet is intended to be handed out to patients who are undergoing a contrast-enhanced CT examination.

 Patient Questionnaire

This questionnaire is provided for patients to fill in prior to receiving an iodinated contrast CT.

 Patient Questionnaire Assessment Guide

The assessment guide is intended for health practitioner use only providing guidance on appropriate action if any risks are identified in the Patient Questionnaire.

 Metformin Cessation Sample Letter

This is a sample letter for patients to give to the referring practitioner, if it is recommended that metformin is not take for a period of time after the contrast-enhanced CT. The letter is provided in Microsoft Word format so that individual details can be inserted.
