The RANZCR Standards of Practice & Accreditation Program is responsible for the development of the RANZCR Accreditation Standards for Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology (currently interim Standards of Practice for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Version 8.0), and develops and manages related quality assurance activities. The Program oversees Practice Accreditation through the RANZCR/NATA Accreditation Program.
All practices are encouraged to use the RANZCR Standards of Practice and to participate in the quality assurance activities. Practice participation is currently voluntary, and is available whether or not a practice site wishes to obtain RANZCR/NATA Accreditation.
If a practice site seeks RANZCR/NATA Accreditation and provides Mammography, CT or MRI services, it will need to participate in the relevant program of activity as a condition of accreditation.
Sites that offer MRI services that are eligible for Medicare rebates are required by the Commonwealth Government to participate in the RANZCR’s MRI Accreditation Registration Program.
While participation in the RANZCR/NATA Accreditation Program is currently voluntary, the Commonwealth Government has now confirmed arrangements for its Radiology Accreditation scheme. Please go to the Department of Health & Ageing’s website to view the Commonwealth’s position on mandatory accreditation
at www.diagnosticimaging.health.gov.au or make enquiries via email to di.accreditation@health.gov.au
The Commonwealth has indicated that it will recognise the RANZCR/NATA Accreditation Program under its own scheme when it is introduced.
