Home Training Radiation Oncology Post Fellowship

Post Fellowship

Once trainees have transitioned to Fellowship after successfully completing the training program, it is imperative that they continue to learn and develop knowledge, skills and practice.

This can be done in several ways:

  1. By pursuing ‘the Fellowship Experience’, an intense 1-2 year post immediately following the granting of fellowship, usually in capacity of researcher either overseas or locally.

  2. By pursuing a post graduate degree (higher degree) in the form of a Masters and eventually a PhD.

  3. By engaging in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program – mandatory in both Australia and NZ.

Local Radiation Oncology Fellowship Positions

Fellowships are a highly desirable component of post-graduate training through which Radiation Oncologists develop important clinical and research skills that allow them to remain at the forefront of cancer management and research, thereby ensuring that Australian and New Zealand cancer patients receive the best possible care. The Faculty views the development of sustainable fellowship programs within Australia and New Zealand as a key priority in achieving our vision of an innovative, world class Radiation Oncology specialty for Australia and New Zealand.

The Faculty acknowledges that there are currently not enough local Fellowship positions to meet the increasing yearly output of graduating trainees. The Faculty calls on the Federal Government to show leadership in addressing this pivotal matter by establishing funding arrangements for Australian and New Zealand Fellowship positions in Radiation Oncology as a matter of priority.
