The aim of the BIRG is to develop and review, polices and standards for the RANZCR in relation to:
- mammography
- breast imaging technologies
- imaging guided breast procedures
This also includes:
- encouraging quality improvements in technical, radiation and patient care aspects of breast imaging and diagnosis
- promoting continuing education and training of radiologists in breast imaging
- liaising on matters of breast imaging with other College Committees and key professional and peak bodies dealing with
breast disease
- providing a forum for discussion and providing advice to the RANZCR on issues relating to breast imaging and diagnosis
advising the Diagnostic Economic Committee on issues relating to breast
imaging item numbers for Medicare Benefits Schedule
The BIRG meet via teleconference four times per year as well as face-to-face twice a year, with one of those being held
in conjunction with College’s Annual Scientific Meeting.
