Quality Use of Diagnostic Imaging (QUDI) Program: - A program focusing on implementing evidence into practice in radiology in Australia

The QUDI Program is unique: there is nothing like it in Australia or internationally. It addresses the issues particular to quality service provision in diagnostic imaging. There is no other quality or safety program in Australia that has the people, the structure, or the professional and industry experience and support to do this effectively. The QUDI Program is an essential part of the national initiatives to promote quality in the healthcare sector. This program places the consumer at the centre of the process.

The QUDI Program aims to promote the quality use of diagnostic medical imaging services that are:

  • Essential, efficient, effective, safe and affordable procedures for optimal consumer health diagnosis, management and treatment;
  • Informed and determined by evidence based best practice guidelines for referral for diagnosis and treatment;
  • Supportive of consumer choice and empowerment;
  • Delivered by accredited practitioners using evidence based practice guidelines; and
  • Sustainable and viable within the national health system and health budget.

Global recognition
The QUDI Program is recognised internationally. Please click here to read the Radiological Society of North America’s feature article on the program. Click here to view an endorsement of QUDI by the President of the European Society for Radiologists.

On October 27 2009 the Department of Health and Ageing announced funding for a two year program of work to continue projects focussed on quality and safety in diagnostic imaging, to be managed by the Quality Use of Diagnostic Imaging Program of RANZCR

The work plan from the previous round of funding was completed in June 2009. An overview of the completed projects is available via the button above.

The original QUDI Program (2005 - 2008) had four streams of commissioned projects that focused on the needs of the key groups of stakeholders involved in diagnostic imaging in Australia. Information about these projects is available via the button above.
