Definitions
Policy
Principles which set out the appropriate standard of behaviour or actions expected by the College. Policies are formally documented and provide a framework within which operating procedures may be developed. Compliance is expected and consequences may follow if policies are not adhered to.
Guideline
A document offering advice. It may be clinical or non-clinical. Guidelines are not mandatory and there are no enforced consequences for not following them.
Procedure
A process or series of acts required to achieve an outcome. Will normally have an accompanying policy.
Statement
A communication setting out information on behalf of the College. It must be approved by the Board of Directors (Council) or its delegated authority. It may be a College position statement or it may be a consensus statement which has been agreed on by multiple organisations.
Regulations
Rules which govern a program. Must be adhered to or disciplinary action and/or penalties may apply.
